Summer Programs

From the fundamentals of woodworking and audio engineering to baseball and football, there's something for every interest this summer at Xaverian. Many programs are co-ed and open to the public, with content for students from age six through high school. So whether it's enhancing academic skills, discovering new talents, or building the basics in a favorite sport, Xaverian offers six weeks of programming for students to grow, explore, and make new friends this summer.

JUNE

  • FXD Skills for Success

    Open to: Xaverian students only, entering grades 7 and 8
    Dates: June 24 - June 27
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $350
    Instructor: Mrs. Jennifer Sullivan and additional FXD Teachers

    The Francis Xavier Division (FXD) Skills for Success program provides incoming Xaverian seventh graders and eighth grade transfers with a week-long opportunity to become familiar with the study skills program and to take part in community building activities geared toward middle school boys. This program will also include some recreation time for incoming students as they learn more about Xaverian’s intramural and co-curricular programs that will be offered during the school year.

  • Freshman Leadership Institute 

    Open to: Xaverian students only, entering grade 9
    Dates: June 24 - June 27
    Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
    Cost: $375
    Instructor: Mr. Jim Conley

    The campus ministry team sponsors this summer leadership institute for all students entering grade 9 at Xaverian. Current Xaverian students act as counselors. Activities include group building and leadership dynamics, an off-campus day of service, prayer experiences, and recreation time, all within the context of the Christian challenge to be servant leaders in our world.

  • Speed and Conditioning

    Open to: Boys entering grades 6-9 who are participating in the baseball clinic
    Dates: June 24 - June 27
    Time: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
    Cost: $85
    Instructor: Ms. Emily Morrison

    For an additional cost of $85, strength and conditioning will be offered to all athletes in grades 5 through 9 before their respective athletic clinics.

  • Basketball Clinic

    Open to: Boys entering grades 5-9
    Dates: June 24 - June 27
    Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
    Cost: $250

    Under the direction of Xaverian’s varsity basketball coach, Xaverian’s Basketball Clinic promises to take the way boys train for basketball to another level. The goal is to help each individual athlete develop his skill set and increase confidence so that he is able to perform at his highest potential.

  • Redefining Strong: FXD Leadership and Identity

    Open to:  Xaverian students only, entering grades 7 and 8
    Dates: July 8 - July 11

    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $325

    The Francis Xavier Division (FXD) Leadership & Identity program provides incoming Xaverian grade 7 students as well as incoming and returning grade 8 students with a week-long opportunity to become familiar with the Xaverian Values and leadership philosophy and explore their self-identity. Through a variety of small-group discussions, presentations, large-group dynamics, reflection time, and meaningful recreation, middle school participants will seek to answer for themselves the two guiding questions of the week:
    • Who am I?
    • How am I called to use my unique gifts and talents at Xaverian?

  • Academic Readiness Seminar

    Open to: Xaverian students entering grade 9 taking CP English or CP Algebra
    Dates: July 15 - July 18 and July 22 - July 25 

    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $350 
    Instructor: Mr. Conor Hawley

    The two-week, Monday - Thursday, Academic Readiness Seminar is open to incoming Xaverian grade 9 students only and will focus on the disciplines of English and math. Students will discuss the English summer reading text for 90 minutes each day, as well as spend 90 minutes working on the first few chapters of Algebra 1. This program is designed to give a rising ninth grader confidence in the subjects of math and English as he begins the school year.

  • LetGo Your Mind

    Open to: Boys and girls ages 6-13
    Dates: Session 1: July 15 - July 19, Session 2: July 22 - July 26
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

    LetGo Your Mind Summer STEM Programs offer structured day programs where kids can experiment with LEGO bricks and learn the basics of design and engineering while having a blast! Their summer programs run for one week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and this year, they’ll be running multiple one-week programs at Xaverian. LetGo Your Mind offers separate classes for children of all ages to ensure that learning occurs and students are engaged.

  • Rec League

    Open to: Boys entering grades 7-9
    Dates: July 15 - July 18

    Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
    Cost: $215
    Instructor: Mr. Pete Ball
     
    The Rec League is a comfortable space for students to play recreational games and build relationships with each other. Students will partake in tournaments in ping pong, corn hole, can jams, basketball, wiffle ball, and more. Instructed by Mr. Peter Ball, a seasoned middle school educator, this is a great opportunity for students to partake in an academic offering in the morning and have fun with buddies in the afternoon.

  • MassElite Football

    Open to: Boys entering grades 5-9   
    Dates: July 15 - July 17

    Time: 5:00  - 8:00 p.m.

    Instructor: Coach Al Fornaro '78

    Within a great atmosphere for football instruction, Mass Elite Xaverian coaching staff is committed to the development and growth of football players of all ages and skill levels. Our goal is to provide a constructive and active football learning experience for all campers in an organized, exciting, and enjoyable setting. The clinic will be run by Mass Elite staff and Xaverian's head football coach, Al Fornaro. Coach Fornaro has dedicated nearly 40 years to Xaverian football.

  • Baseball Clinic

    Open to: Boys entering grades 6-9  
    Dates: July 15 - July 18 

    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 
    Cost: $250
    Instructor: Mr. Alex Ramirez 

    The baseball clinic introduces age-appropriate drill work as well as in-game situational awareness to all of the young athletes in attendance. We cover the finer points of a mechanically sound baseball swing as well as introduce a baseball-specific training routine that players can employ in their own time. Players will learn position-specific drills that are reinforced during scrimmages throughout the week. The clinic will be run by Coach Ramirez. Coach Ramirez is one of the school counselors and a coach at Xaverian. He has experience working with students at the high school level as an Academic Center Teaching Assistant at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT, and as one of our school counselors at Xaverian. A lifelong student of the game, and with experience at all positions, he knows what it takes to improve as a player athletically, offensively, defensively, and as a pitcher.

  • Audio Engineering with Garage Band

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 7-9
    Dates: July 22 - July 25
    Time: 9:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. 
    Cost: $300
    Instructor: Mr. Andrew Sgro

    "Audio Engineering with Garage Band" will teach students the basics of recording with Garage Band, including how to track live and digital instruments, how to use the automated drum machine, and how to best find tones and sounds that fit the music the student hears in his/her head. Students can also get help writing songs or completing ideas they already have. The goal is for each student to have at least one song completed by the end of the session, but more is possible depending on how much material the student brings with him/her!

  • STEM - Movie Making

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 7-9 
    Dates: July 29 - Aug 1 

    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $315
    Instructor: Mr. Ryan Howard and Mr. Lucien Brodeur 

    STEM - Moving Making combines creative writing, artistic vision, and technology to bring a narrative to life. Through the use of audio, images, animated clips, and other resources students will design a short story. This form of media is often used in advertising where time is short but a large impact is needed. Students will need to bring a device with them to the program (Apple or PC is fine).

  • STEM - Introduction to Woodworking

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 7-9
    Dates: July 29 - JAug 1 
    Time: 12:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
    Cost: $315
    Instructor: Mr. Ryan Howard

    Led by the Director of the X-Ploration Center, students will learn how to safely use basic carpentry tools and power tools. Students will then work on a group project design and build. Students will learn how to use the lathe to turn their own pen and make their own desk organizer out of wood.

AUGUST

  • College Application Workshop

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grade 12
    Dates: Session 1: August 5 - August 8, Session 2: August 12 - August 15
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $300 for non-Xaverian students / $150 for Xaverian Seniors 
    Instructors... Ms. Michaela Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Barbara Mitchell, Mr. Michael Dornisch, and Mr. Alex Ramirez 
     
    Xaverian’s counseling department is hosting a four day in-person college application workshop for rising seniors. Students will complete their Common Application and essay prior to the start of their senior year. Admissions counselors from a variety of colleges will be on-hand to review both the Common App essay and supplemental essays, facilitate mock interviews, and share college admissions best practices with the students. The program is $150 for Xaverian students and $300 for non-Xaverian students.
