Xaverian Seniors Named National Merit Finalists

Two Xaverian seniors were recently notified that they advanced to finalist status.

Xaverian Brothers High School seniors, Benjamin Alfond and John Foley were recently named National Merit® finalists. Benjamin and John scored in the top 1% of students on the PSAT.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit® Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit® Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Benjamin and John were two of approximately 15,000 semifinalists who were notified this February that they had advanced to Finalist standing. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit® Scholarships worth more than $31 million offered this spring.
