HAWKS SIGN NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT

Seniors at Xaverian Brothers High School committed to continue their athletic careers in college on Friday, November 13. Students were accompanied by their parents to celebrate at a socially-distanced ceremony hosted in the Sarah M. Bisson Foyer. Xaverian was proud to congratulate eight members of the Class of 2021 and their families. Congratulations to Nick Bloom (lacrosse), Eric Boulger (golf), Cole Doyon (baseball), Ryan Douglas (baseball), Henry Fleckner (baseball), Sam Maloof (track and field), Dylan Reilly (baseball), and Cristian Reyes (lacrosse) on the opportunity to play college athletics. 

Nick Bloom ’21 signed to continue his lacrosse career at Division I Fairfield University. A member of the Xaverian varsity lacrosse team since his sophomore year, he was also named a senior captain for the 2021 season. Head Lacrosse Coach Dagget Morse added that “Nick is one of the hardest workers in the program. He made himself into the athlete he is today through pure determination and hard work. Nick has been a great example to younger players in the program through his actions on and off the field.”

Cristian Reyes ’21 signed to continue his lacrosse career at Division II St. Michael’s College. Coach Morse elaborated on Reyes’ time at Xaverian saying: “Cristian found a place on the varsity roster early on as a sophomore, now he is ready to play major minutes for the team. A two way player he is able to help us athletically at both ends of the field.”

Sam Maloof ’21 will continue throwing the shot put at Division I Lehigh University. Head track and field coach, David Palmieri ’93, P ’ 23, summed up his road to a college commitment: “Sam was a late-comer to track and field, really getting into it for the first time in the winter of his junior year. He ended up as the league’s most valuable field performer. His commitment and sportsmanship have been a tremendous blessing to our program. He's wonderful to work with and a great role model for his teammates.”

Coach Gerry Lambert ’88, head coach for both varsity golf and baseball, celebrated with four student-athletes on their commitments: Eric Boulger, Cole Doyon, Ryan Douglas, Henry Fleckner, and Dylan Reilly.

Eric Boulger ’21, a co-captain of the Catholic Conference Tournament champion golf team, will continue his career at Division I UCONN. He has been a three-year captain and a multi-year All-Scholastic, and he was a key member of the 2018 state champion team. Coach Lambert describes him as, “having a perfect mentality for the game of golf; quietly focused, yet not overly pressing in terms of his demeanor.” He follows his older brother Jack ’17, also an outstanding golfer during his time at Xaverian, to UCONN.

Cole Doyon ’21 will continue his baseball career at Division III Ithaca College. “Cole has worked tremendously hard to make himself into a better athlete and a better left-handed pitcher over the past few years,” says Coach Lambert. “Despite his injury setback and rehab journey to come, I have great faith that Cole will ultimately be able to pitch with a high degree of success at the collegiate level.”

Ryan Douglas ’21 will also play baseball at the next level, continuing his career at Division II Stonehill College. Douglas, who also played basketball during his time at Xaverian, seems primed for a standout season this spring. “Ryan has always shown great athleticism and great competitiveness as a ballplayer,” says Coach Lambert. “He will be one of the key guys on the mound for the 2021 Xaverian baseball team, and he has a ton of upside as he works through his college years because of his ability to specifically focus on his baseball prowess.”

Henry Fleckner ’21 will play baseball at Division III Tufts University. Also a member of the varsity football team, he has played both wide receiver and defensive back on the gridiron for Xaverian. Coach Lambert projects a big spring for Fleckner, who has been named a captain: “In addition to being a great infielder and player, Henry has displayed leadership qualities both on and off the field for the past couple of years. As co-captain this year, Henry will be a key aspect to the team's success in 2021.”

Dylan Reilly ’21 will play baseball at Division II Rollins College. Also a member of the varsity football team during his time at Xaverian, Reilly has started both at wide receiver and defensive back on the gridiron. Coach Lambert says his prospects on the baseball diamond are good. “Dylan has shown great potential throughout his high school years, both as a slick-gloved infielder and with the bat,” says Coach Lambert. “He projects to be one of our central contributors on this spring's team, and with continued commitment to excellence, Dylan is well-poised to succeed at Rollins.”
