Welcome to Xaverian


We have 13 new talented faculty and staff members joining our community. They’re eager to jump right into life at Xaverian. Let’s meet them! 

Eric Burke - Fine Arts (Visual Art)
Mr. Eric Burke is our new visual arts teacher. Prior to Xaverian, Mr. Burke taught at Pope John XXIII High School in Everett and was also a member of the fine arts department at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody. Mr. Burke has a BFA in illustration from Montserrat College of Art, and is the camp director for Running Brook Summer Camp Adventure. Mr. Burke is excited to work with Xaverian’s fine arts department, and can’t wait to meet his new students. 

Mary Ann Corliss, P '25 - IT 
Mrs. Mary Ann Corliss, P ’25, has joined Xaverian’s IT department this year. She has a B.A. from Seton Hill University. Prior to Xaverian, Mrs. Corliss worked at Saint John the Evangelist Elementary School in Wellesley. She enjoys reading in her free time, and has two pets - a dog named Daisy and an axolotl named Valentina. 

Hannah Crowley - Science
Ms. Hannah Crowley will be joining the Xaverian faculty in our science department. Prior to Xaverian, Ms. Crowley taught at Revere High School. She has a B.S. in biology, and an M.A. in teaching, both from Tufts University. Ms. Crowley will serve as an assistant FXD cross country coach. In her free time, she plays competitive ultimate disc on a club travel team based out of Boston. 

Jessica Giberson - School Nurse  
Mrs. Jessica Giberson, BSN, RN joins Xaverian with 11 years of pediatric nursing experience. Previously, she worked at Maynard Public Schools where she was the middle school nurse both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to her time in Maynard, she worked as an in-home pediatric nurse for young patients with a variety of healthcare needs and also served in Natick Public Schools. Mrs. Giberson graduated with her BSN from Southern New Hampshire University, and is licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). She is an experienced school nurse mentor, currently assists in various schools throughout Massachusetts with school nursing responsibilities, and is a candidate for her National School Nurse Certification this year.

Catherine Goldberg - Theology
Ms. Catherine Goldberg will be joining the Xaverian faculty as a theology teacher. Prior to Xaverian, Ms. Goldberg taught theology at Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, RI. She has a Bachelor of Science from Providence College, and a Master of Education from Providence College. Ms. Goldberg has coached Unified basketball and volleyball in the past, and hopes to get involved in Xaverian athletics this coming year. 

Matt Greeley '15 - Campus Ministry/Theology 
Mr. Matthew Greeley is already familiar with Xaverian, as he is a graduate of the Class of 2015. Mr. Greeley will be a campus minister and is joining our theology department. Prior to Xaverian, he served two years as a high school campus minister in the Diocese of Gary, Indiana, and one year as a middle and high school theology teacher in Boston. He has a B.A. from Boston College, where he double majored in theology as well as applied psychology and human development. After his graduation from Boston College, he earned an M.A. in theology from the University of Notre Dame.

John Guinan - Dean of Student 
Our new Dean of Students, Mr. John Guinan, is joining us from Xavier High School in Middletown, CT, a fellow Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School. He has a B.A. in philosophy, and politics from Assumption University in Worcester, as well as an M.A. in philosophy from Boston College. Mr. Guinan is currently earning his graduate certificate in Catholic School Leadership from Creighton University, which will be completed in December of 2022.

During his time at Xavier, Mr. Guinan developed a deep appreciation for the philosophy of Catholic and Xaverian education, and its mission to form men of faith and character. With our long history of carrying out the Brothers’ mission here in Westwood, he is looking forward to working with the Xaverian community in continuing this tradition of excellence. 

Cory Johnston - Math
Mr. Cory Johnston will be joining our math department. Prior to Xaverian, Mr. Johnston taught at Galvin Middle School in Canton. He has a B.A. in business administration from Bryant University, a master’s in curriculum and instruction from Fitchburg State University, and a second master’s in administration and educational leadership from Endicott College. 

Mr. Johnston is excited to get to know his colleagues and students in the upcoming weeks, and can’t wait to get involved in athletics and experience all of the extra curricular activities that happen on campus. Fun fact - Mr. Johnston once spent six months in Australia where he had the opportunity to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef. 

Grace Maakaroun - Computer Science 
Before Ms. Grace Maakaroun joined the Xaverian faculty, she taught computer science and STEM at St. Catherine of Siena school. She has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA (management concentration) from the Lebanese-American University in Lebanon. Before moving to the United States, Ms. Maakaroun accumulated her corporate work experience in the business industry in Dubai. She earned a degree in education and a Massachusetts teaching license in digital literacy/computer science K-12. She is a member of the CSTA. Ms. Maakaroun is excited to prepare and guide high school students to be successful in their future careers. 

Laura Sarkar, P ’20, ’28 
You will find Mrs. Laura Sarkar, P ’20, ’28, sitting next to Mrs. Julie Horne in our front office this year. Mrs. Sarkar is our new Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Principals. She has a B.A. from York University in Toronto, Ontario, as well as a paralegal certificate from Boston University. She is most excited to see the smiles on the students’ faces when they return for the new school year. Mrs. Sarkar loves to travel and has lived in five different countries. 

Jennifer Sullivan, P '23, '26, '26 - Academic Coordinator
A familiar face at Xaverian, Mrs. Jennifer Sullivan, P '23, '26, '26, previously served as the 2022 Gala Coordinator, and has been an active part of the Xaverian community for years. This year she joins us as the an academic coordinator. Mrs. Sullivan received a B.A. in psychology from Emory University and a Master of Education in School Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to Xaverian, Mrs. Sullivan held positions at Beaver Country Day as the interim director of academic support at the upper school, and academic support specialist at the middle school. Additionally, her experience includes work at The Education Cooperative as an assistant internship coordinator for the Career Exploration Internship Program, and as a school counselor in the Holliston Public Schools. 

Last year Mrs. Sullivan served as the assistant coach for the FXD tennis team. She is currently a parent representative for the Class of 2023 and is co-chair of the Parent Education Committee.

Mark Watson - Science 
Mr. Mark Watson comes to Xaverian from LaSalle Academy in Providence, where he was the science department chair and yearbook advisor, and taught biology, environmental science, oceanography, and AP Biology for 15 years. He has a B.S. from Southern Connecticut State University, a master’s in fish biology from University of Rhode Island, and master’s in zoology from the University of New Hampshire. 

Mr. Watson has his advanced open water diver certification. He enjoys sports photography, discussing the topic of evolution, and has his own fossil collection. 

Peter Welch - Campus Ministry/Theology 
Mr. Peter Welch will be joining the theology department and the campus ministry team. Prior to Xaverian, Mr. Welch taught at Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, NJ, and served as a campus minister at Emmanuel College in Boston. He has a B.A. in philosophy and theology from Fordham University, and a Master of Ministry and Theology from Villanova University. 

Mr. Welch is a graduate of Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury, a fellow Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School.
