Coach Lambert describes Danny as “strong and well-rounded contributor on the mound, in the field, and at the plate.”

When talking about Jack, Coach Lambert says, “Jack’s innate skill and competitive nature coalesce and allow him to consistently drive for his maximum potential.”

Josh Gauvain has committed to continue his athletic career at the University of Findlay.

“Josh is a crafty, strike-throwing pitcher who always seems to get the job done,” says Coach Lambert. “Xaverian’s varsity baseball team will count on him this spring, and the University of Findlay will do the same in the years beyond.”

Michael Oates has committed to continue his athletic career at the University of Connecticut.

A three-year varsity player, Coach Lambert describes Michael as a central contributor to the 2022 team and says he expects more of the same this year as the Hawks come up on their spring season. “I know Michael will continue to work hard in the upcoming season and beyond. His future endeavors at UConn will provide increased opportunities for ongoing excellence for him.”

FOOTBALL

Two members of the varsity football team signed their commitment letters at Xaverian accompanied by Al Fornaro ’78, as well as members of their families.

Lucas Almeida has committed to continue his athletic career at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Coach Fornaro describes Lucas as “a very fine young man who understood his role and was a very good practice player.” He says that he was well-liked by all his teammates and was always willing to jump in when he was needed, regardless of the capacity. “He learned the game and went the extra mile to become a better player and person,” he says.

Jonathan “Jon” Mould has committed to continue his athletic career at Harvard University.

Before arriving at Xaverian, Jon was an avid hockey and baseball athlete but had never played football. As a sophomore, he became a starter on the offensive line. Since then, he has led his team by example, earning recognition as a Boston Globe and Boston Herald All Scholastic, a Division-1 All Star, and by being selected as a member of the Super 26 Football Team. Along with his athletic prowess, Jon holds a 4.3 GPA and is to be named a scholar athlete. He has been selected to play in the Shriners All Star game, with all proceeds benefiting the hospital.

Coach Fornaro speaks highly of him, saying, “Jon picks things up quickly and is always willing to lend a hand to others. He’s a true leader on and off the field.”

Thomas Hagar, a member of the varsity swimming and diving team, recently signed his commitment letter to the University of Alabama at Xaverian and was accompanied by members of his family.

During his tremendous senior season, Thomas helped lead the Hawks to a 6-1 dual meet record. They took second place at the D1 South Sectionals and fourth place at the D1 State Meet. Along the way, Thomas broke two state records - one for the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.73 and one for the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.19. He was named the Catholic Conference League MVP and was featured in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald as an All-Star. He is set to receive honors at the Eastern Massachusetts Interscholastic Coaches Association in May.

He helped lead his team to the D1 South title and captained them to third at the state final. His Coach has watched as Ryan honed his craft during his high school career, saying, "Over his four years, Ryan Scollins consistently improved himself to become one of the best golfers in the state.” As for his future at Holy Cross, Lambert says it’s likely to be a bright one. “I believe he's poised to continue to improve and have a great career!”

A two-year varsity player, Patrick helped lead his team to the D1 South title and captained them to third at the state final. Coach Lambert says that Patrick’s game evolved tremendously during his high school career, which culminated in the decision to make him a captain for his senior year.
