Mr. Carroll sat down with Weymouth’s Tim Peruzzi to talk about his senior year and the importance of mentorship.

Four years have gone by, looking back, how would you describe the pace?
I would say fast, but at a good speed. Everyday that I’ve been here has felt like a good day, there were some long ones, but they’ve all been worth it.

Is there a moment or event that comes to mind when thinking about your life as a student?
The early mornings. I’m here at 7 o’clock just about every morning for either acapella or practice for the musical. What I think’s been most memorable is seeing the 7th and 8th grade students get involved, it’s been fun getting to know them.

Do you feel a sense of obligation to interact with new students?
I see it more as a responsibility. There were several seniors who went out of their way to help mentor me my first year, the “Brothers for LIfe” idea is a real thing here. When you receive help from your friends or teachers you almost feel like it’s your job to pay it back.

It sounds like you interact with just about everybody?
I really do, and it’s been one of the best parts of my experience. As a Hawk-to-Hawk mentor I’ve been assigned to a grade 9 homeroom to help new students get use to the school, I’m part of Young Men for Change and a SpiritHawk leader, I see them all.

What are some pieces of advice you try to pass along?
Stick around after school, don’t go home right away. My day really just begins after the last bell. There are some days that I leave here and feel like I learned just as much in a club as I did a class and that’s an awesome feeling.

Any big events coming up that we should know about?
Yes, this year’s fall theatre production will be Brigadoon! We’ve got a great cast, a great set, don’t miss out.
