2017 Ryken Award Winner

Congratulations to Linda Corbett, P ’11, Xaverian’s Administration Office Manager, on being named the 2017 Theodore Ryken Award winner.

The Ryken Award
recognizes an adult member of our community for his or her commitment to Ryken’s vision and dedication to the core values of a Xaverian Brothers education. “In hundreds of small ways and countless acts of kindness,” said Headmaster Brother Daniel Skala, C.F.X., “Linda has set an example for us about how to live as a follower of Ryken.”

Ryken Award nominees are put forth by faculty and staff, and selected by Brother Dan and Dr. Jacob Conca ’94, Ph.D., Principal. In Mrs. Corbett’s nomination, her colleague wrote, “Perhaps she is most like Ryken because of her no-nonsense grit and resolve concerning all kinds of day-to-day administrative goings on, as well as in the face of some of life’s most acute challenges.

“In hundreds of small ways and countless acts of kindness, our recipient has set an example for us about how to live as a follower of Ryken,” said Brother Dan when he announced the winner at the Founder’s Day Mass. “As we honor this year’s recipient for her extraordinary contribution to the school, may we all resolve, as the Fundamental Principles of the Xaverian Brothers urge us, ‘to give as a gift those gifts you have received.’ This year’s recipient is a living example of how to do just that.”

Past recipients of the Ryken Award include the following current faculty and staff: Mr. Jim Lewis, P ’95, ’02; Ms. Mary Briody; Mr. Garrett Bowers ’87, P ’21, ’23; Mr. James Conley; Mr. Charles Stevenson ’69; Mr. Gerard Lambert ’88; Mrs. Paula Duddy, P ’93, ’95; Mr. David Palmieri ’93, P ’23; Mrs. Catherine Douglas; P ’21, Mr. Philip Penza ’67, P ’05; Mr. James McCarthy; Mr. Denis Smith ’67, P ’95, ’98; Mr. Stephen Steinbergher; Mr. Alexander Salachi, P ’18; and Mr. Robert Gill.
