Reopening Xaverian 2020-2021

COVID-19 Exposure and Positive Test

While we hope no one in the Xaverian community falls ill with COVID-19, we realize the need to plan for a member of our community testing positive for the virus.

Thankfully, the state has issued a 19-page guidance document on this topic, and we intend to follow all state directives. For those who are interested, you can access the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education information here (look for the link to "Protocols for Responding to COVID-19 Scenarios")
. What follows is some of the most important information relative to COVID-19 cases in schools.

As a reminder, if anyone is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms they must stay home and immediately inform Xaverian. Those symptoms include:

  • Fever (100.0° Fahrenheit or higher), chills, or shaking chills
  • Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Headache, when in combination with other symptoms listed
  • Muscle aches or body aches
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms listed
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) and when in combination with other symptoms

Any faculty, staff, student, or administrator who is experiencing the above symptoms must be tested for active COVID-19 and show a negative result before returning to school. Xaverian will work with those impacted students and families to provide a listing of local COVID-19 testing sites, along with all testing guidelines.

Should students and faculty present any of the symptoms noted above while at school, the individual will immediately be moved to the COVID-19 isolation room, evaluated, and sent home. These individuals will not be allowed to enter Xaverian until they have satisfied all state-issued protocols (see above document) for a safe return to Xaverian.

Please know that it is our overarching goal to appropriately respond to any member of our school community who:

  • Presents as potentially symptomatic
  • Tests positive for COVID-19
  • Is thought to have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19

We will also fulfill our role in contact tracing, alongside our local and state partners.

Each potential COVID-19 case will be different and Xaverian will be ready to appropriately respond to the unique circumstances of any individual within our school community. In this way, we hope to do all we can to safeguard our community.

Xaverian is a Catholic, college-preparatory school for boys in grades 7-12. As an inclusive community, we embrace diverse experiences and perspectives, welcoming students and families from all faiths and backgrounds. Through exceptional academics, athletics, the arts, faith formation, and service opportunities, we help young men discover their unique gifts and talents so they can share them with a world in need.
