Chorus Earns Silver Medal at MICCA Festival

Colleen Casey
The Xaverian Brothers High School chorus received a Silver Medal at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors (MICCA) Choral Festival this past weekend.
This is the second year in a row the chorus has performed at the festival and received recognition. The chorus performed Magnificat HWC 289 by Healy Willan, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening from Frostiana by Randall Thompson and Non Nobis, Domine by Rosephanye Powell, arr. William C. Powell.

“I am proud of our Chorus who sang so well and created quite a number of beautiful moments in their program,” said choral director and music teacher James Brodeur.

“The silver medal is an affirmation that we performed at an excellent level, a testament to the hard work and talent of our singers. But the silver medal is also a challenge to continue to strive for greater artistry, greater joy, greater beauty in our performances. As we continue to grow our music program, this is another step forward. I look forward to bringing them back to MICCA next year!”

After performing, the Chorus received a clinic from Dr. E. Wayne Abercrombie, Professor Emeritus of Music and former Director of Choral Activities at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who shared some ideas of how to improve our singing.
