Mr. Carroll checks in with Foxboro's Michael Karshis about his first few days in Grade 7.

I've heard that you’re quite the piano player, how did you get your start?
I’ve been playing for eight years, since I was five years old. I wanted to play because I saw my older brother do it and I thought ‘Hey! I can do that.” I went up to the piano and made two really bad noises, but stuck with it.

Any plans to play here at Xaverian?
Definitely! I’ve already talked with (Music Director) Mr. Brodeur about playing at the gala and during intermissions at the plays. I just want people to hear beautiful music.

What else are you involved here at school?
Currently I’m playing Francis Xavier Division golf, and I’ll be auditioning for the acapella group too, I’ve heard it’s challenging but hopefully I’ll do well.

How about your classes, do you have any favorites so far?
Chinese with Mrs. Chiu has been great, she’s really nice and the class is a lot of fun. I’m taking an advanced 8th grade math class as well. It’s pretty hard, you have to do exponents, square roots, and cube roots.

How would you describe your transition here to Xaverian?
I’m part of the Hawk-to-Hawk mentorship program here, which has been like an intro course to Xaverian led by upperclassmen. Besides being really friendly, they’ve helped me open the lock on my locker and find my classes.

If Xaverian had a song, how would it sound on the piano?
It would sound like Mozart, but 100 times better…..it would probably start with a D major, because it sounds happy.
