The recently renovated Ruth Kennedy Library is a modern day learning commons where both quiet study and collaboration are encouraged, and exploration and research are aided by digital resources.
Inside the library you will find multiple rooms set aside specifically for group projects and study sessions. Here, students share ideas and learn from each other, no whispering required. And, for times when students prefer the quiet, the library delivers by providing space ideally suited to prep for finals or to dig deep into compelling research. Resources are available both online and in print. The school’s extensive digital database is accessible anywhere, at any time. Book lovers will find a vast resource of literary options to hold in their hands and read in one of the comfortable library seating areas, or in an individual study niche. By preserving the traditional, reverent library “hush” and providing dedicated spaces for collaborative learning, plus robust online resources and stacks filled with print options, the Ruth Kennedy Library is designed to meet the needs of all students, and all learning styles.
Introducing the Academic Center for Enrichment
The Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) opened in the fall of 2022. Located in the Ruth Kennedy Library, it is an inviting and inclusive space for students to receive academic support and work collaboratively and/or independently. Students in all grade levels are welcome to drop by the center for guided support, or make an appointment to work directly with Mrs. Jen Sullivan, P ’23, ’26, ’26, Academic Center for Enrichment Coordinator. The purpose of ACE is to coach students to improve their study stills, executive functioning and self-advocacy skills, test taking strategies, and communication.
The streamlined library print collection totals approximately 8,000 titles. This includes periodical holdings of 50 titles. Materials for grades 7 and 8 are shelved separately from the grades 9-12 materials to enhance the ability of younger students to find appropriate materials for their research.
The library website allows students to search all library resources including the electronic card catalog, the eBook collection, and the following online databases: ABC-CLIO History Databases with History eBook collection, EBSCO Explora for grades 7 and 8, EBSCO Explora for grades 9-12, EBSCO academic eBook collection, Infobase eBook Collection, Science Online, Bloom's Literature Online, and a number of FactCite databases. Students also have access to all of the resources provided by Boston Public Library when they obtain a BPL eCard and all of the resources available to students in the Commonwealth via the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Massachusetts Library System. All of these digital resources are accessible both on and off campus.
