Description: The Advanced Placement (AP) Business with Personal Finance course is a college-level introduction to the principles of business, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Students will explore the fundamental disciplines of business, including management, marketing, finance, accounting, and strategy, while also developing essential personal finance skills for lifelong decision-making.
Through case studies, simulations, and project-based learning, students will apply business concepts to real-world challenges. Major course projects include the Business Canvas Project, in which students develop and test a business idea using entrepreneurial design principles, and the Financial Advisor Project, in which students analyze a financial profile to make recommendations related to budgeting, saving, investing, and long-term goal setting.
Students will also study topics such as business ethics, innovation, leadership, and the role of competition in markets. The course emphasizes problem-solving, quantitative reasoning, and communication skills that mirror those used by business professionals.
The AP Business with Personal Finance course is equivalent to a one-semester college Introduction to Business course and a one-semester Personal Finance course. Students who take this course are required to take the AP Business with Personal Finance Exam in May.
