Matthew Malley ’20 Named Head Varsity Tennis Coach
Welcome, Coach Malley!
Matthew Malley, a Xaverian alumnus of the Class of 2020 and current Xaverian Ryken Fellow, has been appointed as the head coach of the Hawks varsity tennis team for the 2025 spring season. Malley’s passion for tennis began at an early age, and he continued the sport as a student on Xaverian’s Francis Xavier Division, JV, and varsity-level teams. Malley’s coaching career began at the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex where he was an instructor for their Junior Tennis Academy and at their summer camp for seven years. In 2019, he earned his certification as a licensed tennis instructor through the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), solidifying his expertise.
“I am truly honored to be named head coach of the Xaverian tennis program,” Malley shares. “I’m excited to help elevate the team and build a competitive program that consistently challenges the best in the state.”
During his undergraduate years at Boston College, his passion for athletics was readily apparent. Malley served as a manager with BC’s Men’s Basketball team for all four years, and was named the Head Manager for his junior and senior seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24. Last spring, he was selected as the 2024 NCAA Student Basketball Manager of the Year by Uncommon Sports Group.
Malley’s appointment as head tennis coach marks his second coaching position since his return to Xaverian. Prior to this, he was an assistant coach for the Hawks' varsity basketball team this winter, contributing to a standout season.
"We are extremely excited to have Matt lead our tennis program,” says Xaverian’s Director of Athletics, Ted Currle. “His vast tennis experience, as well as his experience coaching basketball and just being around high level sports and high level coaches made him a perfect fit for the role. We look forward to Coach Malley taking our program to the next level and remaining with the Hawks for a long time."
