Hawks Football Wins Third Straight State Title

Xaverian Hawks clinch a historic three-peat at the Division 1 State Championship.

For the third consecutive year, Xaverian football has earned the title of Division 1 State Champions. The Hawks closed out the regular season with a 6–2 record, securing the #3 seed in the MIAA Division 1 Tournament before powering through the playoffs with commanding wins over Brockton (33–0), Andover (49–17), and Springfield Central (36–22).

Their Thanksgiving matchup with longtime rival St. John’s Prep brought even more excitement. With a 21–18 victory, the Hawks claimed the Catholic Conference Championship and returned the Brother William Drinan, C.F.X. Trophy to 800 Clapboardtree Street.

In a storyline reminiscent of 2023, Xaverian and St. John’s Prep met again less than ten days later, this time under the lights at Gillette Stadium for the ultimate prize. In a high-scoring battle, the Hawks prevailed 41–35 to secure their third straight state title. During the game, quarterback Will Wood '27 finished 11 of 16 passing for 345 yards, with five touchdowns to rack up the third-most passing yards in MIAA championship history.

The team’s successful season has been fueled by standout performances across the roster.  Wood has been exceptional, passing for 2,343 yards and 37 touchdowns with just one interception, while adding 444 rushing yards and four scores. Christian McIntyre '26 has been a dominant force at receiver, recording 62 receptions for 1,515 yards and 26 touchdowns. Rocco Sestito '28 anchored the ground game with 1,015 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

Supported by a disciplined and dependable offensive line, the Hawks paired their explosive offense with a formidable defense allowing just 14.5 points per game. Defensive end Dominic Funke '26 led the charge with more than 60 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 11.5 tackles for loss, while Michael Harden '27, Jonathan Etienne '28, and Liam Koch '26 provided critical support. McIntyre also led the team with four interceptions, underscoring his impact on both sides of the ball.

With two memorable showdowns against St. John's Prep and another championship added to the program’s storied history, the 2025 season was defined by consistency, resilience, and excellence, a true testament to the strength and spirit of Hawks football.
