Hawks and Pioneers Make History at Polar Park

Xaverian Brothers High School and Saint John’s High School to Play First-Ever Catholic Conference Football Game at Polar Park.

In a venue traditionally reserved for baseball, the Xaverian Hawks and the Saint John’s Pioneers will battle on the gridiron as part of their regular Catholic Conference season on Sunday, October 24 at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts. Polar Park opened in 2021 and is home to the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Worcester Red Sox. The Xaverian vs. Saint John’s game will make history as the first-ever Catholic Conference football game to be played in the new stadium.

According to Dr. Jacob Conca ’94, Head of School at Xaverian, the event is about much more than athletic competition. “Though the Pioneers and the Hawks will certainly give their all on the field as Catholic Conference competitors, the legacy of the Xaverian Brothers will be the true winner of the game. While our teams wear different uniforms bearing different logos and different colors, our similarities run especially deep thanks to the dedicated service of the many Xaverian Brothers who brought exceptional Catholic education into two of Massachusetts’ great cities, Boston and Worcester.”

Alex Zequeira, Headmaster at Saint John’s, shares this sentiment. “We are thrilled to be playing Xaverian Brothers High School at Polar Park, steps away from the start of Xaverian Brothers education in New England at St. John's Church on Temple Street in Worcester. As Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools, we share a commitment to Catholic education and a focus on the whole person making this game about more than a final score, but about a longstanding tradition of excellence and to the brotherhood that exists in our respective communities.”

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available for sale in advance online or at the gate for $5 a seat.
