From the fundamentals of 3D printing to football skills and drills, there's something for every interest this summer at Xaverian. Many programs are co-ed and open to the public, with content for students from grades 4-12. So whether it's enhancing academic skills, discovering new talents, or building the basics in a favorite sport, Xaverian offers 13 weeks of programming for students to grow, explore, and make new friends this summer.

  • Media Arts: Green Screen, Streaming, and A/V Production

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 6-9 
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    iMovie and OBS Studio are a simple yet powerful set of programs that anyone can learn to use! Students will learn everything from basic video creation to how to use a green screen. More advanced students will learn how to use OBS to put together podcast videos and streams. Participants will need a computer with a camera and a green screen. Inexpensive green screens can be purchased through Amazon.com.
  • Music: Introduction to Strings

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 6-9; younger students may be admitted at the teacher’s discretion.

    This course will be for beginning students in violin, viola, or cello. The class will begin with the basic concept of the instrument - how to hold it, posture, and how to hold the bow. Students will learn the strings of their instrument, their clef to read, the letter names, and how to apply them to the fingering for their instrument. There will be discussion of basic rhythm and the concept of tempo. Beginning pieces will be worked on with music provided.
  • Music: Let's Play the Drums

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 6-9

    Learn about different cultures through the art of drumming. We will explore a wide variety of drumming techniques and introduce students to drum rudiments and music fundamentals. No experience necessary!

    This class is action packed and full of amazing activities that get the heart pumping! We will focus on drumming and techniques as well as music reading. This group is designed to teach students how to play the drums from zero to hero; so no experience is necessary!

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 6-9
    Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

    These sessions provide chamber music opportunities for smaller string ensembles and string and piano ensembles. Rehearsals and coaching will take place daily. These will be daily sessions with prepared music (provided prior to the week's class) with an informal opportunity to perform on the final day of each week. An ensemble may sign up for more than one week together as a group. This gives the student the opportunity to interact with multiple players in a small setting and learn how to rehearse a piece as a group.

  • Skills for Success (FXD)

    Open to: Xaverian students only, entering grades 7 and 8
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    The Francis Xavier Division (FXD) Skills for Success Program will provide incoming grade 7 and grade 8 transfers an opportunity to become familiar with the study skills program, get oriented to various technologies at Xaverian, meet several FXD teachers, and take part in community building activities geared towards middle school boys. This program will also include some recreation time for incoming students as they learn more about Xaverian’s intramural and co-curricular programs that will be offered during the school year.

    There are two weeks being offered. The curriculum is identical both weeks so students should only register for one week. Students should bring lunch with them on Monday through Wednesday. Students do not have to bring lunch on Thursday as there will be a pizza party to close out the program.

  • Freshman Leadership

    Open to: Xaverian students only, entering grade 9
    Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    The Xaverian campus ministry team sponsors this summer leadership institute for all students entering grade 9. Current Xaverian students act as counselors. Activities include group building and leadership dynamics, an off-campus day of service, prayer experiences, and recreation time, all within the context of the Christian challenge to be servant leaders in our world.
  • Speed and Conditioning

    Open to: Boys entering grades 6-9 who are participating in the baseball clinic
    Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $75

    For an additional cost of $75, speed and conditioning training will be offered to all athletes in grades 6 through 9 who are participating in the baseball clinic. 
  • Baseball Clinic

    Open to: Boys entering grades 7-9
    Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
    Cost: $225
    Instructor: Mr. TJ Manning
     
    The baseball clinic introduces age-appropriate drill work as well as in-game situational awareness to all of the young athletes in attendance. We cover the finer points of a mechanically sound baseball swing as well as introduce a baseball-specific training routine that players can employ in their own time. Players will learn position-specific drills that are reinforced during scrimmages throughout the week. The clinic will be run by Coach Manning. Coach Manning is a science teacher and coach at Xaverian. He has experience working with students from sixth grade through the high school level as a teacher at Boston College, in Cambridge public schools, and now at Xaverian. A lifelong student of the game, and with experience at all positions, he knows what it takes to improve as a player athletically, offensively, defensively, and as a pitcher.

  • Academic Readiness

    Open to: Xaverian students entering grade 9
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $325 for the two-week, 8-day program
    Instructors: Mr. Conor Maguire and Mr. Conor Hawley

    The two-week Academic Readiness Seminar (July 12-15 and July 19-22) is open to incoming grade 9 students only and will focus on the disciplines of English and math. Students will discuss the English summer reading text for 90 minutes each day as well as review reading and writing conventions. They should arrive on day one with the book in hand and must be enrolled for college-prep or accelerated level English class at Xaverian in the fall. The mathematics part of the program focuses on pre-algebra readiness and the basics of solving equations in anticipation for a full year of high school Algebra I.
  • STEM - 3D Printing with Onshape

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 7-9
    Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

    Instructor: Mr. Ryan Howard

    Led by the Director of the X-Ploration Center, students in this class will learn the basics of part making with a 3D cad program. They will then print their results using the 3D printers at the Xaverian X-Ploration Center.

  • Rec League

    Open to: Boys entering grades 7-9

    The Rec League is a comfortable space for students to play recreational games and build relationships with each other. Students will partake in tournaments in ping pong, corn hole, can jams, basketball, wiffle ball, and more. Instructed by Mr. Peter Ball, a seasoned middle school educator, this is a great opportunity for students to partake in an academic offering in the morning and have fun with buddies in the afternoon.
  • STEM - Custom Wireless Speaker

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 7-9
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Utilizing Xaverian’s brand new, state-of-the-art X-Ploration Center, students will build their own dual-speaker system with true stereo sound that brings the musicians right into the room. Two large 2-3/4'' diameter wireless speakers provide rich sound, while a 1-7/8'' control pod offers full playback controls. They can build the speaker cabinets in the shape and material of their choice—use blocks of wood with holes drilled in them, or build a pair of hollow cabinets with fancy joinery. Students can also get creative by integrating speakers into furniture, cabinetry, and other commonplace items. The system connects wirelessly to any Bluetooth-enabled device. In addition to the speakers, the kit includes a USB cable and a control pod with a USB charging port, 3.5mm auxiliary input, and on/off, forward, back and pause buttons.

Next Movement promises to take the way boys train for basketball to another level. Their goal is to help each individual athlete develop his skill set and increase confidence so that he is able to perform at his highest potential.

  • Let Go Your Mind

    LetGo Your Mind Summer STEM Programs offer structured day programs where kids can experiment with LEGO bricks and learn the basics of design and engineering while having a blast! Their summer programs run for one week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and this year, they’ll be running a one-week program at Xaverian. LetGo Your Mind offers separate classes for children of all ages to ensure that learning occurs and students are engaged. Please register directly on their website.

    Within a great atmosphere for football instruction, Mass Elite and the Xaverian coaching staff are committed to the development and growth of football players of all ages and skill levels. Our goal is to provide a constructive and active football learning experience for all campers in an organized, exciting, and enjoyable setting. The clinic will be run by Mass Elite staff and Xaverian's head football coach, Al Fornaro. Coach Fornaro has dedicated 37 years to Xaverian football. Please register directly on their website.

    Utilizing Xaverian’s brand new, state-of-the-art X-Ploration Center, students will learn the basics of laser cutting/printing and design. Students will make their own custom sign, key chain, and also a personalized insulated water bottle.

    This program, run by Xaverian’s counseling department, is designed to help rising seniors complete the Common Application for college admission in the fall. This in-person program will give 1:1 support in order to ensure all aspects of the application are completed properly before the start of a student’s senior year. This program is free for Xaverian students and costs $250 for non-Xaverian students.
  • Music: Strings Bootcamp

    Open to: Xaverian students grades 7-12
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    This is a morning workshop designed to get kids ready for the fall semester. Grades 7-12 are welcome; no experience necessary!
  • The Common App

This in-person program will give 1:1 support in order to ensure all aspects of the application are completed properly before the start of a student’s senior year. This program is free for Xaverian students and costs $250 for non-Xaverian students.
  • Summer Math Review

    Open to: Xaverian students only, entering grades 7-9
    Dates: First three weeks of August
    Time: Three evenings per week for one hour
    Cost: $200
    Instructor: Xaverian’s Math Department
     
    The Summer Math Review program is hosted by the Xaverian math department and is designed for students who need to ramp up their math skills for re-entry into a new year of school and learning. This program is designed primarily for students who are new to Xaverian and enrolled in Math 7, Math 7 Advanced, Math 8, Math 8 Advanced, Algebra I, or Geometry. Current XBHS students are also invited to join the program for a refresher before the school year starts. Meeting times will be announced at the end of July.

    This program, run by Xaverian’s counseling department, is designed to help rising seniors complete the Common Application for college admission in the fall. This in-person program will give 1:1 support in order to ensure all aspects of the application are completed properly before the start of a student’s senior year. This program is free for Xaverian students and costs $250 for non-Xaverian students.
  • Lacrosse Clinic

    Open to: Boys entering grades 6-9
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    The summer lacrosse clinic, run by the program staff here at Xaverian, will train middle school athletes in both individual and team skills. Following the same types of drills and routines used at the varsity level, athletes will have a chance to improve their skills in a fun and competitive environment.

    Coach Morse joined Xaverian as the Head Coach in the fall of 2019 after coaching seven years at Medfield High School and winning three state championships. Also a part of the Laxachusetts Club Lacrosse staff, Coach Morse has a proven track record working with middle school and high school players. Joining him will be members of the school staff, current Xaverian varsity lacrosse players, and alumni.

    This is a morning workshop designed to get kids ready for the fall marching season. Kids learn drills, marching, and stick technique. No experience necessary!
  • Music: Strings Bootcamp

    Open to: Xaverian students grades 7-12
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Cost: $300
    Instructor: Mr. Tim Roberts

    This is a morning workshop designed to get kids ready for the fall semester. Grades 7-12 are welcome; no experience necessary!
  • Music: Rhythm and Drumming

    Open to: Boys and girls entering grades 6-9
    Time: 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
    Cost: $300
    Instructor... Mr. Bill Ricciardelli

    This class is action packed and full of amazing activities that get the heart pumping! We will focus on drumming and techniques as well as music reading. This group is designed to teach students how to play the drums from zero to hero; so no experience is necessary!

    Under the direction of Xaverian’s varsity basketball coach, Next Movement Basketball Camp is being held at Xaverian Brothers High School this summer. Next Movement promises to take the way boys train for basketball to another level. Their goal is to help each individual athlete develop his skill set and increase confidence so that he is able to perform at his highest potential.
