Xaverian Named to Advanced Placement School Honor Roll

Xaverian recognized for student success in Advanced Placement program.

College Board announced that Xaverian Brothers High School has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning a Gold distinction.

The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Xaverian offers 22 AP courses, two of which are offered to freshmen. “Part of our mission as a college preparatory school is to ensure our students have rigorous academic experiences that will prepare them for college and the real world,” said Principal Dr. Michael Nicholson, P ’29. “We are proud of our young men for their participation in the AP program and for their pursuit of academic excellence in all things.”

In the 2022-2023 school year, 271 students took at least one AP exam, with a total of 563 exams administered. Of the 164 members of the Class of 2023, 78% took at least one AP, with 25% taking five or more APs during their high school careers. 48% of the Class of 2023 scored a 3 or higher on their AP exams.

“AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance – they represent the best of our AP program.”
