XAVERIAN STUDENT NAMED ONE OF TEN OUTSTANDING NORWOOD TEENAGERS
Senior Matt Malley was selected to receive a prestigious award for his service in the community.
T.O.N.Y. awards are given annually to 10 Norwood residents who dedicate significant time, effort, and talent to volunteering in their community or at church. The program seeks to honor individuals in the community and offer them as positive role models to younger students. Out of an original 24 nominees, Matt and the remaining nine winners received a $500 savings bond and a signed letter from the Governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker.
To be considered for the award, Malley submitted a three-page application that asked questions concerning his outreach in the community. Matt is involved in a variety of ways in both the Norwood and Xaverian Brothers High School communities, ranging from tutoring in physics and English, participation in clubs and athletics, managing the varsity basketball team, and contributing to service efforts.
He was announced as a winner at the 25th annual award presentation on January 20, 2020, during a dinner at the Oriental Lodge. “It was definitely an honor. I wasn’t really expecting to win,” Matt says. “Everyone else who won, many of whom are my friends, are all very talented, qualified, and involved.”
