XAVERIAN ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF ITS X-PLORATION CENTER

Construction is scheduled to begin during the summer on this interdisciplinary innovation space

Xaverian is taking learning to a new level with the creation of its X-Ploration Center. The mission of this new space is two-fold; to provide students and faculty with increased opportunities to engage in project-based learning through design, creation, and experimentation, and to expand on the faculty’s traditional “pedagogical tool belt.” Working together with the X-Ploration Center staff member, faculty and students will partner in learning that enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills ripe for real world application.

A plethora of new technology and equipment will provide the foundation for this new space, including laser cutters, 3D printers, table and band saws, a drill press, vinyl cutters, a CNC router and sewing machine, a green screen, video recording equipment, and virtual reality technology. Not only will students learn an abundance of new skills with this technology, but by giving them increased ownership over their learning, curiosity will drive engagement with subject material.

“We know that young men are best served when learning is collaborative, relational, and active,” says Headmaster Jacob Conca ’94, Ph.D. “In this spirit, we are excited to announce that Xaverian’s brand new X-Ploration Center will open in the fall of 2020.”
