NEW CLUBS FOR 2020-2021

by Matthew O’Halloran ’21, #XBCorps

Led by students and faculty, Xaverian added four more clubs this year.

Interested students can find all club info in the daily morning messages email from Mr. Joshua Tranfaglia, Assistant Principal for Student Life, as well as on the Student Life resource board.

Entrepreneurship Club (Grades 7 - 12)

The Entrepreneurship club's goal is to spark creativity, help students understand what it takes to create a business or non-profit, and develop the next generation of leaders that will impact billions! In the 21st century, we live in an era where there are many new opportunities never seen before in human existence. The XBHS entrepreneurship club aims to help students capitalize on these opportunities and be in a place where students can learn the fundamentals of creating their own business, organization, or non-profit.

Faculty/Staff Moderator(s): Mr. Mark White (mwhite@xbhs.com) and Ms. Amy Franklin (afranklin@xbhs.com)

Club Meeting Time(s) and Location(s): Thursday at  2:30 p.m. in R137 and via Zoom (see google classroom for exact meeting dates and Zoom link)

X-Ploring the World of Modern Science (Grades 7 - 12)

Through our research and hands-on activities, students will learn new pieces of information about various scientific fields while also collaborating with others to build lifelong friendships and trust. We aim to unlock the scientific potential for all club participants through our informative and engaging weekly presentations regarding modern science topics and hands-on experiments and activities in the science labs and new Exploration center. In this club, many will get to know science and its various subfields in a more fun way by researching new types of topics and getting to know how these phenomena occur in a lab/controlled setting.

Faculty/Staff Moderator(s): Mr. Ryan Howard (rhoward@xbhs.com)

Club Meeting Time(s) and Location(s): Friday at 2:45 p.m. via Zoom and in-person in the X-Ploration Center (R204)

X-Represented (Grades 7 - 12)

Through small group conversation, guided discussions, and personal experiences, this group will provide a forum where students can learn about and understand the contributions of Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color to society. Participants will also reflect on the experiences of BIPOC people within the XBHS community, and consider how they can share their learning to effect positive change in their communities.

Faculty/Staff Moderator(s): Mr. Anif McDonald (amcdonald@xbhs.com) and Mr. TJ Manning (tmanning@xbhs.com)

Club Meeting Time(s) and Location(s): X-Represented meets biweekly on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m., both remote and in person.

Drumline (Grades 7 - 12)

The Drumline offers students a unique opportunity to participate in a multi-percussion ensemble consisting of snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums, and cymbals. The aim of this club is to help all students build a strong foundation in rhythm, learn the fundamentals of each instrument, and gain experience in a marching percussion ensemble.

Faculty/Staff Moderator(s): Mr. William Ricciardelli (wricciardelli@xbhs.com)

Club Meeting Time(s) and Location(s): The Drumline will meet Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the music center, immediately following the conclusion of Jazz/Pep Band. To sign up, email Mr. Ricciardelli at (wricciardelli@xbhs.com)
