High School Sports Update 3-19-21

The varsity football team waited 470 days to take the field since last playing on Thanksgiving day in 2019. They certainly didn’t show any rust! The Hawks defeated BC High 28-12 this past Friday night in front of a great Covid-19-limited crowd. Xaverian was led on offense by captain Michael Berluti ’21, who was 20-27 passing for 180 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown. The top receivers for the Hawks were Henry Fleckner ’21 (5 receptions, 29 yards, 1 TD), Noah Canty ’21 (2 receptions, 56 yards, 1 TD), and Carlo Crocetti ’22 (6 receptions, 50 yards). Joe Kelcourse ’22 led the way rushing with 13 carries for 91 yards and a TD. The defense swarmed all night, limiting the BC offense to two big plays; the Hawks were led by captain Vince Gilchrist ’21 on that side of the ball.

Xaverian will be back in action on Saturday at noon. They will host Malden Catholic on senior day. Sixteen seniors and their parents will be honored. This is an opponent change. Due to Covid issues with our previous opponent we had to scramble to find another opponent. We are thrilled to welcome MC and give our players the opportunity to play. The live stream for the game can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/xaverianhawks.

We will be admitting two fans per student athlete for the game. Xaverian fans should enter at the Clapboardtree St. side of the Bro. Daniel Skala Plaza. Please do not enter by the baseball field or the gym. We ask that you fill out the Covid safety app before arrival. If you are unable to do so, there will be QR codes at the gate to scan and fill out. The link for the app can be found here.

The track team was scheduled to travel to Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury today, but due to the cold temperatures, this meet will be moved to Monday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m.

Spring sports registrations will open on Monday, March 29. Students should be on the lookout for that form in the portal. If your son wants to participate in baseball, lacrosse, track and field, volleyball, tennis, ultimate disc, rugby, or wrestling - please remind him to sign up. He needs to have an updated physical form on file with the nurses’ office and an updated concussion form handed in to the coach. More information will be shared regarding the spring season in the coming weeks.
