One of Xaverian's pioneer faculty members, Mr. Charles Duddy, passed away July 13, 2016.
For 41 years he taught Physics, and was Chairman of the Science Department for many years. After many years of outstanding service to Xaverian, he retired in 2007.
Mr. Duddy had a significant influence on generations of Xaverian students, who admired him for his love of teaching, for his enduring patience and for his sense of humor. No faculty member has had a greater influence on Xaverian’s outstanding Science program than Mr. Duddy. In 2007 he was the recipient of the Theodore James Ryken Award, named for the founder of the Xaverian Brothers, and meant to recognize Charlie’s commitment and dedication to Xaverian in a manner exemplifying Ryken’s vision of the authentic Catholic educator. Charlie is one of those giants of Xaverian education who stand out and above, and upon whose shoulders we stand. His legacy will always be a special part of Xaverian, with us in everything he taught us, in the storied history of the school, and in our hearts. He will be here in the things that mattered to him and us.
Charlie leaves his wife, Paula, who serves as Chair of Xaverian’s Fine Arts Department, his children Steven ’93, David ’95, and Jennifer and his grandchildren. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 20 at Ginley Funeral home, 3 Barber Street, Medway from 4 – 8 p.m. His funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church, Medway at 10 a.m.
May his soul rest in God’s peace, and may our prayers and support console and comfort Paula and her family.
