Owen Langan ’18
Owen, who was awarded a scholarship to play baseball with the Huskies at Northeastern University, signed his letter at Xaverian, accompanied by his coach, Gerry Lambert ’88, and Xaverian’s Director of Athletics, Charlie Stevenson ’69. Owen’s mom, Susan Langan, was also present at the signing.
“Last year, Owen emerged as one of our best pitchers on a team that qualified for the Super Eight,” said Coach Lambert. “In the postseason tournament, he pitched a great game against Newton North, earning the win on the mound and extending our season. Owen possesses a competitiveness that drives him to excellence. When he is on the mound, our team feels great about our chances for success.”
Owen himself is still soaking in the reality of next year. His first visit to campus he was impressed by the beautiful field and the resources offered by the school.
“I’m beyond excited to play for the Huskies next year and am looking forward to traveling to Florida to play against the Red Sox,” Owen said, referencing the longstanding history between the two teams and the revered game played during spring training. This year marked the 15th such meeting between the two teams.
“With continued work and commitment, Owen is poised to have a fine college career ahead of him at Northeastern,” said Coach Lambert.
Sean Nizolek ’18
Sean, who received an athletic scholarship to play with the Spartans at the University of Tampa, signed his letter at Xaverian accompanied by his coach, Timothy Gardner, P ’19, and Xaverian’s Director of Athletics, Charlie Stevenson ’69. Sean’s parents, Heidi and Todd Nizolek, were also present at the signing.
"Sean converted from midfield to defense early in his high school career, and it has certainly paid off for him,” said Coach Gardner. “He dedicated significant time and effort developing his footwork and defensive skill set to become one of the Catholic Conference's elite defenders. He can play close defense against attackmen, but he also has the speed to defend midfielders.”
Sean’s initial visit to the University of Tampa clinched the deal and his excitement about becoming immersed in a winning academic and athletic culture is palpable. “My official visit to the school last spring and overnight with the team really played a pivotal role in my college decision-making,” he said. “A very competitive lacrosse team paired with an excellent business school and fantastic location right next to downtown Tampa really made my decision clear.”
“Sean is a true leader on our team, just by his example of hard work in practice and focused effort on the field,” said Coach Gardner. “I know he’s going to excel at the University of Tampa, both on and off the field."
